Can the Amazon Kindle store college Text Books?

I will be heading off to college next fall and i was thinking that it would be more cost effective to just purchase a kindle and then download The Books i will need onto it. Is this possible? Any thoughts about the idea?

Text Algorithms $45.63 This much-needed book on the design of algorithms and data structures for text processing emphasizes both theoretical foundations and practical applications.
