I had to find a home for us. I must have walked what seems like miles but really only four blocks but they were long blocks. I didn’t really know which, way to go just walking. God must have heard my prayers or my son’s smiles you know God watches out for fools and babies. I was only eighteen myself and had a son he was just about a year a baby raising a baby. He’s getting cranky now wanting to cry and move all around dropping his bottle on the ground I stopped to pick it up and wipe it off looked towards this light that was very bright because now it getting darker outside. Where is this light coming from I can really see 1409. My new home a large sign reading Apartment FOR RENT. |

In 2003, the school was granted Specialist Status in Science. It remains the only school in Gloucester with this distinction. Otlery, a religious college, gave a tenancy in a manor also called “Otlery” to Ware and his son. The tenancy was established by copyhold, an ancient device for giving a parcel of a manor to a tenant, usually in return for agricultural services, which was something like a long-running lease with special privileges for each party. Ware and his son held their copyhold to have for their lives, subject to the will of the lord and the custom particular to that manor. The Wares copyhold was in a parcel also occupied by some tenants at will. The college then leased the parcel to Heydon for a period of eighty years in return for rents equal to the traditional rent for the components of the parcel. The following year, the college was dissolved and lost its lands and rents to Henry VIII, although the act of dissolution kept in force grants made within the previous year for a term of life. The Court of Exchequer found that the grant to the Wares was within the statute s protection but that the lease to Heydon was void. Excerpt: The National Land Company was founded as the Chartist Cooperative Land Company in 1845 by the chartist Feargus O’Connor to help working class people satisfy the landholding requirement to gain a vote in county seats in Great Britain. It was wound up by Act of Parliament by 1851. The Reform Act of 1832 extended the franchise. In county constituencies in addition to forty shilling freeholders franchise rights were extended to owners of land in copyhold worth £10 and holders of long-term leases (more than sixty years) on land worth £10 and holders of medium-term leases (between twenty and sixty years) on land worth £50 and to tenants-at-will paying an annual rent of £50. The chartists had, as one of their objectives, the enfranchisement of the working man. O’Connor focussed his energies on enabling working class people to satisfy the landholding requirement to gain a vote in county seats. In his single minded pursuit of this objective he diverged from the mainstream of Chartism. OConnor declared that Great Britain could support her own population if her lands were properly cultivated. As has been pointed out, he had no use for cooperative tillage; his plan was for peasant proprietorship. In his book ‘A Practical Work on the Management of Small Farms’ he set forth his plan of resettling surplus factory workers on little holdings of from one to 4 acres (16,000 m). He held that the only possible way to raise wages was to remove surplus labour out of the manufacturers reach, and thus compel him to offer higher wages. At the time, sexual acts between men were illegal in Britain, and the brothel’s clients faced possible prosecution and certain social ostracism if discovered. It was rumoured that one of the brothel’s clients was Prince Albert Victor, who was the eldest son of the Prince of Wales and second-in-line to the British throne. The government was accused of covering up the scandal to protect the names of any aristocratic patrons. One of the clients, Lord Arthur Somerset, was an equerry to the Prince of Wales. He and the brothel keeper, Charles Hammond, managed to flee abroad before a prosecution could be brought. The rent boys, who also worked as messenger boys for the Post Office, were given light sentences and no clients were prosecuted. After Henry FitzRoy, Earl of Euston, was named in the press as a client, he successfully sued for libel. The British press never named Prince Albert Victor, and there is no evidence he ever visited the brothel, but his inclusion in the rumours has coloured biographers’ perceptions of him since. The scandal fuelled the attitude that male homosexuality was an aristocratic vice that corrupted lower-class youths. Excerpt: Liverpool City Council v Irwin UKHL 1 is a leading English contract law case, concerning the basis on which courts may imply terms into contracts. There was a fifteen storey tower block known as the Piggeries in Everton, Liverpool. It had seventy units, a stairwell, two lifts, and a rubbish chute. Mr and Mrs Irwin were tenants from July 1966. The common parts were vandalised, the lifts did not work, the stair lights failed, the chute was blocked, lavatory cisterns blocked and overflowed. The tenants refused to pay rent. In an action by the council to eject them, they counterclaimed that the council was in breach of a duty to keep the common parts of the estates in decent repair. Lord Denning MR dissented from Roskill LJ and Ormrod LJ and argued that a contractual term can be implied when it is reasonable.
